Welcome to Sausalito

Where the hills of Marin slip gently into the shimmering expanse of the Bay, Sausalito unfolds like a painting in motion, light dancing across the water, sailboats drifting like brushstrokes, and every street revealing a story waiting to be discovered.

Once a haven for shipbuilders, bohemians, and postwar dreamers, Sausalito has long held its place as both refuge and muse. Its legacy lives on through a vibrant community of artists and artisans, whose galleries, studios, and waterfront ateliers continue to shape the town’s creative pulse.

Here, inspiration lingers in the salt air, in the weathered wood of the docks, and in the quiet hum of conversation spilling from café terraces.

Discover Downtown

To wander Sausalito is to move effortlessly between moments.

Dine along the waterfront where seasonal menus reflect the rhythm of the coast. Shop intimate boutiques filled with curated finds, handcrafted goods, and pieces that carry a sense of place. Play beneath open skies, whether kayaking along the harbor, cycling the scenic waterfront, or simply pausing to watch the fog roll in like a slow-moving curtain. Stay awhile in charming inns and waterfront hotels, where each sunrise feels like a private unveiling.

Guides & More

Sausalito is not just a destination, but a feeling. A place where history and creativity converge, where beauty is both preserved and reimagined, and where every visit leaves an imprint, subtle, enduring, and entirely its own.

A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats

A new chapter is underway along the Sausalito waterfront—bringing improved access, vibrant public spaces, and renewed energy to our downtown core. As we move into 2026, Downtown Sausalito stands at an important inflection point. Months of planning, volunteer effort, and community input are beginning to translate into visible progress along our waterfront and within our business district.

The Downtown Sausalito Association’s focus remains clear: support a thriving mix of businesses; increase property values and business and city revenues; strengthen connections between Bridgeway, Princess, the ferry landing, and the waterfront; and create a welcoming, charming, and walkable environment for residents and visitors alike.
