A new chapter is underway along the Sausalito waterfront—bringing improved access, vibrant public spaces, and renewed energy to our downtown core. As we move into 2026, Downtown Sausalito stands at an important inflection point. Months of planning, volunteer effort, and community input are beginning to translate into visible progress along our waterfront and within our business district.
The Downtown Sausalito Association’s focus remains clear: support a thriving mix of businesses; increase property values and business and city revenues; strengthen connections between Bridgeway, Princess, the ferry landing, and the waterfront; and create a welcoming, charming, and walkable environment for residents and visitors alike.

Downtown Sausalito Association
The Downtown Sausalito Association is a California Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation that manages the tax revenues of the Downtown Sausalito Property Business Improvement District under a disbursement agreement with the City of Sausalito. Initially incorporated as the Downtown Sausalito Business Improvement District Association, the corporation adopted the simpler doing business as name of Downtown Sausalito Association.
Mission & Goals
The primary purpose of the corporation is to benefit the public and private property owners and the businesses within the boundaries of the Downtown Sausalito Property Business Improvement District by enhancing property values and increasing business revenues.
To achieve this goal, the corporation engages in:
Demand Creation: Attracting new customers, businesses, and property owners to the District through marketing, promotions, and strategic outreach programs designed to enhance the appeal of Downtown Sausalito as a premier business location.
Public Space Enhancements: Coordinating and implementing minor cleaning services within the public rights-of-way, organizing regular events, and undertaking beautification efforts, including but not limited to landscaping, lighting, and public art installations, to improve the aesthetics and overall environment within the District.
District Boundary

Downtown Sausalito Association Board
Property Owner Directors, or their designated representatives, shall be owners of real property within the boundaries of the Downtown Sausalito Business Improvement District (the “District”) that is not City-owned, who have made full payment of all District assessments due for the previous fiscal year. No less than one-half of the seats on the Board of Directors, at all times, shall be filled by Property Owner Directors
City Directors are City of Sausalito elected or appointed positions or persons designated by the City of Sausalito. As such, anyone qualifying as a City Director can only act as such if the City has made full payment of all District assessments due for the previous fiscal year. Two (2) seats must be filled by City employees or City-designated representatives to the extent feasible. These seats are not cumulative to the Property Owner Director seats minimum.
Community Directors shall be persons who a) own and operate a business located on property located within the boundaries of the District, or the duly appointed authorized representative of such owner and operator; b) community members who reside within the boundaries of the District; c) individuals who do not reside or operate a business within the District boundaries but who show a high degree of interest and concern for the welfare of the District and who understand its connection to the community at large, and who the Board believes may assist the Corporation to fulfill its goals as a public benefit Corporation.
Board terms span 2 years, and members can sit on the board for a maximum of a continuous 6 years.
