Details

Poet’s Corner was built in 1901. According to Sausalito Beautiful, the landmark was built as a memorial to Sausalito poet Daniel O’Connell. O'Connell was an Irish poet writer who wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle in the late 1800’s. He was one of the founders of the Bohemian Club, a private club located in San Francisco and Sonoma County. O'Connell died in 1899, at the age of 50, from pneumonia, according to website "Our Sausalito."

The memorial was restored in 2018 by residents and local nonprofit Sausalito Beautiful. The memorial is a beautiful place to visit and look out at the Bay and Angel Island. To get to Poet's Corner, walk up Princess St. from Bridgeway, turn left on Bulkley and continue up the windy street. O’Connell Bench will be on your right.
