Details
The gorgeous Viña del Mar Park is located by the Ferry Terminal and is adorned with a fountain and 14ft-tall elephant statues from the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. According to Sausalito's Chamber of Commerce, there were originally twelve statues at the International Exposition. The building’s architect, William Faville, arranged for this pair to be shipped to his hometown of Sausalito after the World’s Fair. The statues were recast in concrete in 1935. In 2001, The Sausalito Foundation fundraised to restore the statues. Today, the statues live in Viña Del Mar Park Plaza and are emblematic of the City of Sausalito.
