Details
This sculpture on the waterfront south of the Trident in Sausalito was originally fabricated in concrete in 1957 by local artist Al Sybrian. By the mid-1960s, the concrete was starting to wear down, so it was replaced by a bronze cast of the original. Three years ago, the sculpture was ripped off of its pedistal by a violent winter storm. Residents and friends of Sausalito raised the funds through the Sausalito Foundation to install an improved pedistal and replace our beloved sealion. One of the fund raising activities included the Mayor swimming from Angel Island to Sausaltio.
