Details

Vina Del Mar Park, was created in 1902 to fill a stagnate pond between two ferry landings and the train tracks. Originally named Depot Park, the park's iconic fountain and elephants were part of the 1915 Panama Pacific exhibition in San Francisco, celebrating the completion of the Panama Canal. The fountain and statues were moved to the park when the exhibition closed. Vina Del Mark is the center of historic downtown Sausalito which for decades was a bustling ferry and train terminus, known for gambling and smuggling, especially during Prohibition. Instead of the park and the parking lot, imagine a large ferry terminal with 3 ferries and a train station with up to 4 trains ready to leave for for various locations in northern California. Vina Del Mar is a perfect place to enjoy Downtown Sausalito with some wine and takeout from one of the many near by restaurants and delicatesens.
