Sausalito International Whiskey Trail
WHAT IS THE WHISKEY TRAIL?
What if a two-mile stroll could take you from England to Japan, Scotland to China, Mexico to Ireland, Portugal to Chile, Scandinavia to Kentucky — and beyond?
Welcome to the Sausalito International Whiskey Trail — the only city-walking trail in America that pairs historic waterfront restaurants & bars with a documented chapter of Sausalito's 250-year immigrant story, each sealed with a hand-selected international whiskey from the culture that made this town their home.
WHAT BRINGS IT TO SAUSALITO?
For 250 years, the world has come to the shores of Sausalito — Spanish explorers, an English sailor who founded the town, American Navy Captains, Portuguese fishermen, Irish and Chinese railroad workers, Italian & German merchants, French bistro owners, Scandinavian boatmen and more. Every culture arriving here brought something pertinent and left something permanent.
The Sausalito International Whiskey Trail brings that multicultural history to life by making it tangible — and tastable. This permanent, self-guided walking experience pairs 16 waterfront restaurants & bars with whiskies (a local named cocktails) sourced from around the world, each matched to the documented heritage at that exact location. Walk north to south or south to north or start in the middle. Which ever direction, your walk will be an easy, enjoyable journey through the history and hospitality of Sausalito’s past and present.
WHAT IS UNIQUE ABOUT IT?
Plenty of towns have walking paths and local history, but only Sausalito has a waterfront steeped in 250 years of international history, where a Spanish ship anchored in 1775, an Englishman was granted Mexican Land grant in 1838, the American Navy took control of Old Town for is Pacific Fleet base in 1847 during Mexican American war, where in 1875 hundreds of Chinese helped build our North Coast Pacific Railroad, in 1920 rum-runners kept the town “saucy” through Prohibition. Every stop on the trail stands on ground where these stories actually happened — named people, real dates, actual events, etc. verified with the Sausalito Historical Society.
